Chicago.
You seriously have to visit.
The best food, people, and entertainment are here without any pretense.
As a budget-conscious traveler myself, I know it can get extremely expensive visiting a world-renowned city.
In between meals you're also treating yourself to famous landmarks like the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower), The Art Institute of Chicago (Yep, that's where Ferris Bueller's Day Off was filmed), and the Field Museum where towering dinosaur skeletons live.

Of course, as a "tourist" you'll be charged hefty admission fees that can quickly add up, but have no fear, as a local, I'll share a few of my favorite budget-friendly must-see spots.
For breakfast, try Ann Sather's. It's a local favorite and has the BEST cinnamon rolls for just over $1.
Coffee and breakfast for two people under ten bucks? I think YES!

Take a stroll on the lakefront afterwards to catch a scenic view of the city. Lake Michigan is so beautiful with the skyline in the distance and sailboats scattered along the harbor.
This is where locals go to get their exercise. You'll see families, dog-walkers, bicyclists, and joggers all soaking in the sun during our short, but invigorating summers.

If you're in Chicago, you have to indulge in a Chicago Style hot dog. That's the rule. And no ketchup. The locals are pretty passionate about that. Mustard is ok though.
Though I was never really into hot dogs, these are a new favorite.
Topped with chopped onions, sweet pickle relish, tomato slices, pickled hot peppers, mustard, and a dill pickle spear. It is the perfect combination of spice, vinegar, savory goodness.

The devotion locals have for the Chicago Cub's is unmatched. You'll have to see a game for yourself at Wrigley Field to experience it.
Living in Wrigleyville I get to see the Cub's game signage on my walks with my dog.
It instantly makes me feel like a part of a grand community. There are cheers in the distance from the stadium and suddenly, life is good and happy.

Tickets can get pricey but you can always opt for rooftop seating for less and still have just as much fun. Chicago is all about love and community and you'll definitely feel it no matter where you grab a seat.
With the heat and busy days, no doubt you'll end up feeling a bit sluggish at some point. You HAVE to try Intelligentsia Coffee.
Hands down the best coffee I've ever had. I guarantee it will be the best you've ever had too. Chicagoans love to support local businesses, and this one is on the top of the list. It has been recognized nationally multiple times as one of the best coffee destinations in the country.

I enjoy exploring new cities, then sharing the treasures I find with others. I'm a connector and a believer. I think cupcakes make the world go 'round and could live off mac & cheese. It brings me joy to make others smile. I thrive off laughter, love, and good conversation. I'm a bit of a fashion bug who always supports the little guy. I like to inspire people to dream big and LIVE LARGE.

this is fantastic! I've always wanted to visit but now I feel like I have to!
ReplyDeleteYou SHOULD go! It's an amazing city - Natalia did a great job highlighting some the city's best features!
